Ram Gopal Varma in his recent interview spoke about the pan-Indian film culture and how he views this term. RGV worked in the Telugu film industry and also in the Hindi film industry, making a benchmark with his way of storytelling and direction. His unique way of storytelling has grabbed attention from all over India.
His masterpieces like Satya, Rangeela, company, Sarkar, and many other films set a benchmark in filmmaking. In recent times his work are not been that appreciated by the audience, with his controversial statements on social issues, and politics he always stays in the news headlines. His bold statements and his opinions are trending on social media.
In this recent interview, he mentioned that the term Pan India doesn’t make sense at all, it’s all about the conviction. He also added that “A film like Kantara or Maharaja can be made with a conviction, I don’t think a big budget film can be made with a conviction.”
“If Rajamouli would have born in Gujarat, he might have made the same film. That’s his sensibility. Nobody made Bahubali except Rajamouli. it’s not like it’s coming from a culture from Telugu industry. But in reality, South makes an equal number of flops compared to Hindi films.”
He also stated that no one expected an unknown Prabhas can become a pan-Indian star. It’s all about how films are executed. In the recent times directors who sit for storytelling and decide for making their films in other languages is easier than making a film with conviction. Films like Kanthara which worked in Mumbai, and Maharaja which can work in China are made with conviction rather than raising bars on the budget value. what do you think about the recent statement from Ram Gopal Varma about pan-Indian films?
