Rajat Patidar is the new Skipper for RCB in IPL 2025

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has named Rajat Patidar the successor to Faf du Plessis ahead of the IPL 2025. The franchise announced its decision at an event held at the KSCA today. Speculations have been going around for quite some time that RCB will make major changes in the captaincy. With just a few days to go for the 18th edition of the Tata IPL, this decision by RCB to replace Faf du Plessis with Rajat Patidar is a surprise for fans.

RCB Welcomes Rajat

Rajat Patidar has been associated with RCB since his IPL debut in 2021. A right-handed top-order batter and an off-spin bowler, RCB retained him for INR 11 Crore. RCB took to X to inform fans about the change. “As the flag bearer of RCB heading into IPL2025 – Rajat is committed to taking us to newer heights! Lead us to glory, RA-PA! We’re all right behind you!” it said.

Former Skippers Congratulated Rajat

Ex-skippers Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli congratulated Rajat on this new role and extended their full support to him. “I am here to inform everyone, like the others will do as well, that Rajat Patidar is going to be the new captain of RCB. Rajat, firstly, I want to congratulate and wish you all the very best. The way you have grown in the franchise and the way you have performed, you have really made a place in the hearts of all the fans of RCB, all over India. They get excited to watch you play. So, this is very well deserved. Myself and the other team members will be right behind you and you’ll have all our support,” Kohli said in a video posted by RCB.

RCB made three appearances in the finals but is yet to win an IPL title. Undoubtedly, the franchise is one of the most popular teams in the tournament history. RCB has been home to prominent players like Chris Gayle, AB De Villiers, Virat Kohli, Shane Watson, and many others.

RCB will lock horns with Chennai Super Kings in the opening game of IPL 2025 on 21 March at Chennai. Will RCB continue to play bold under Rajat? Wait and watch!
