Mohan Babu Gets Anticipatory Bail: SC Grants

Mohan Babu Gets Anticipatory Bail: SC Grants

In a big relief to senior Telugu actor and former MP Mohan Babu, the Supreme Court of India granted him anticipatory bail in a journalist assault case.

About the case

The incident happened on December 10 at his residence in Hyderabad when chaos occurred amid a dispute with his younger actor son Manchu Manoj. The media was present during the mess, and the actor lost his cool on a journalist. Mohan Babu allegedly snatched a wireless microphone from a journalist and threw it at him, causing severe injuries in a scuffle.

The journalist’s counsel claimed that the attack was so intense that it required reconstructive surgery of the jaw. The journalist was hospitalized for five days and was fed through a tube during recovery. Rachakonda Police filed an FIR against him. Later, the High Court of Telangana dismissed his plea seeking bail, but the Apex Court today granted him bail.

Mohan Babu was admitted to the hospital on the same night with complaints of high blood pressure and anxiety. The actor was discharged after two days. Meanwhile, the journalist was also admitted to the hospital and remained there for 5 days. On December 15, Mohan Babu and his son visited the journalist in the hospital, apologized to him, and promised to offer any help.

What Court said?

On February 13, during the hearing, a bench comprising Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Ahsanuddin Amanullah challenged his counsel regarding allegations that Babu had threatened the journalist. The Court was convinced when counsel refuted these claims and said the actor would compensate the journalist and cooperate with the investigation.

The counsel further argued that the attack was unintentional and ensued in a jiffy. Upon hearing these submissions, the Court granted anticipatory bail to the actor while directing him to cooperate with the ongoing probe.

About the actor

Mohan Babu is a senior actor, producer, educationalist and politician. He acted in more than 500 films and remains an influential personality.
