PM Modi’s Cooking Oil Challenge: Can Celebrities Rise to the Health Mission?

PM Modi’s Cooking Oil Challenge: PM Modi Obesity Awareness Campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the countrymen through the radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on Sunday. During this, he raised the issue of the obesity problem. He said that we can deal with obesity through these small efforts by reducing cooking oil in food by 10 per cent every month. The PM said that he would start a campaign for this. On Monday, PM Modi nominated 10 people to run a campaign under this. He wrote the names of 10 celebrities and said that they should also nominate 10 people so that our movement becomes bigger.

PM Modi posted on X and said that as told in yesterday’s Mann Ki Baat, ‘I want to nominate the following people to strengthen the fight against obesity and spread awareness about reducing the consumption of edible oil in food. I also request them to nominate 10 people each so that our movement becomes bigger! In the post, PM Modi has challenged 10 people. These include entrepreneur Anand Mahindra, Dinesh Lal Yadav, Manu Bhaker, Mirabai Chanu, Mohanlal, Nandan Nilekani, Omar Abdullah, R Madhavan, Shreya Ghoshal and Sudha Murthy.

Two and a half billion people are overweight

Let us tell you that the PM had mentioned obesity in the Mann Ki Baat program. He said that according to a study, 1 out of every 8 people in the world is troubled by the problem of obesity. The problem of obesity has also increased four times among children. According to the World Health Organization, in 2022, about 250 million people were overweight worldwide.


The challenge to reduce oil in food by 10 per cent

PM Modi said that after this episode, I would urge 10 people to reduce the oil in their food by 10 per cent. Also, they should give a similar challenge to 10 people in future. I am sure it will help in fighting obesity. It is noteworthy that India imports 57 per cent of edible oils.
