RGV Legal Troubles Escalate in Cheque Bounce Case: Bollywood film producer Ram Gopal Varma has suffered a major setback in the cheque bounce case. A Mumbai court has issued an arrest warrant against him. The court has rejected his bail plea and his plea for a stay on sentence. Verma was not present in the court during this hearing, after which the court took this step.
This is a new update in the cheque bounce case against Ram Varma. The court rejected his bail plea and appeal to stay the sentence. On behalf of Ram Gopal Varma, a lawyer, Durendra K.H. Sharma, made this application in the court. The lawyer submitted two separate applications, one for bail and the other for a stay of sentence. But due to Verma’s absence, the court rejected both these petitions.
The court reconsidered the earlier court’s decision against Varma, in which Varma was convicted of check bounce. In this case, the court ordered him to pay compensation of Rs 3.72 lakh to the complainant within three months. If RGV fails to pay the compensation, he may be sentenced to an additional three months. The court also made it clear that until he completes the sentence, he cannot get any relief in this case.
In the last hearing, the court had said that Ram Gopal Verma will have to personally appear in the court and file his petition. In this case, Varma’s lawyer had requested the court to grant him bail and stay the sentence.
In the check bounce case, Ram Gopal Varma is accused of issuing a check that bounced due to insufficient funds in the account. This case started in 2018 when an organization, ‘Shri’, filed this case against Verma. The court granted him bail in 2022. But this time, his troubles seem to be increasing due to Verma’s absence and the rejection of the petition.
In this case, the court had ruled against Varma and said that he would not have any right to set-off as he did not spend any time in jail during the trial.
