It is known that three new corridors have been proposed in the second phase of Hyderabad Metro. Along with the new Fourth City Metro, a metro line from JBS to Medchal and from JBS to Shamiroet has been proposed. Metro officials are currently preparing DPRs for these three corridors. The DPRs will be sent to the Center for approval soon.
Metro plays a key role in Hyderabad’s public transport. Those who travel from once corner of the city to another, mostly uses metro. It is reported that nearly 5 lakh people travel in metro every day. In the wake of the popularity of the metro, the Telangana government is ready to expand. While the metro is currently serving three corridors, it has been decided to run it on some more routes. For this, the second phase of the metro has been proposed.
Initially, five corridors were bought to the fore in the first part of the second phase of the Metro. The Telangana government has approved the DPRs for these and has already sent them to the Center for approval. However, due to demands from the public, three more routes were also proposed in the second part of the second phase. Metro from JBS to Medchal (24 km), JBS to Shamirpet (21 km) and from Shamshabad Airport to Future City were proposed. This route was proposed from Shamshabad Airport to Fourth City (40 km) via ORR and Raviryala. The DPR process for these is currently being prepared by the Metro Rail officials.
The government hopes to finalize the DPR process in a few days. If any changes or additions are suggested, they will be added and the final report will be ready. The officials have sped up the process with the aim of completing the DPR by the end of this month. According to the DPR, the total cost of the first part of the second phase is estimated at Rs. 24,269 crore. The proposal has been brought to the fore for the central and state governments to jointly undertake this project. It has been decided that the central government’s share in the total cost will be 18 percent and the state’s share will be 30 percent. The officials have proposed to provide 48 percent loans and 4 percent PPP.
