Hyderabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has won a prestigious award. Shamshabad Airport has once again been awarded in the Airport Service Quality Survey. Shamshabad Airport has been named the best airport in the Asia Pacific region, handling 15 to 25 million passengers per year.
The Airport Council International Airport Service Quality Program is considered a benchmark for measuring the satisfaction levels of airport passengers worldwide. It ranks airports based on several factors such as the size of the airports, area, staff dedication, ease of airport travel, pleasant atmosphere, and cleanliness. However, Shamshabad Airport has scored well in all these and stands as the best airport in the world.
Airport CEO Pradeep, who responded to the prestigious award coming to Shamshabad Airport, expressed his happiness. He said that they will forever be indebted to the passengers who give their airport the best ratings. CEO Pradeep said that their sole goal is to give the best memories to the passengers while adopting advanced technology and innovations.
Shamshabad Airport was built about 22 kilometers from Hyderabad city. It was opened in the year 2008. However, this airport is run by public and private joint ownership. This airport is operated by private owners like GMR Group and Malaysia Airports as well as public organizations like Telangana Government and Airports Authority of India. GMR Group has 63 percent stake in this airport, while Telangana Government and Airports of India have 13 percent stake.
This airport was developed in three phases. By the time it was completed, the infrastructure was set up to handle 40 million passengers per year. After the first phase of development, it was set up to handle 10 million passengers per year. It is understood that the construction of this Shamshabad airport, which is spread over an area of 5500 acres, cost Rs. 2470 crore.
