Tips to Stay Hydrated this Summer!


The Summer is here and now! With March already arrived, massive heat is expected in the days to come. Furthermore, the Telangana Health Department issued a heat wave alert and requested citizens to be cautious in the next few days starting today. This public advisory is issued considering the rise in the temperature in Telangana. Subsequently, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted a gradual spike in temperature over the next three days. Telangana Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, Dr B. Ravinder Nayak, informed the adverse effects of extreme heat and suggested precautionary actions in this Summer.

The scorching heat awaits as the temperature is likely to hit 40°C from March 12 in Telangana. T. Balaji, popular as Telangana Weatherman, who regularly updates on the weather, also hinted the same. On his X account, Balaji said, “Today, Hyderabad City recorded 32-33°C. Just imagine how crazy the conditions will become during March 12-18 as temperatures will reach 40°C in the city. Hot and dry winds are going to blow all over. Same situation for the entire Telangana. Brace for the impact”, his post read.


Therefore, due to heat waves, one can experience nausea, vomiting, hot and dry skin, high body temperature (above 40 degrees Celsius), dizziness, muscle cramps, and rapid heartbeat. Extreme heat can lead to disorientation, seizures, or coma. If you find any such symptoms, please see a doctor and seek immediate medical attention.

So here are a few steps to stay hydrated and take care of the heat wave-

1. Drink plenty of water regularly and carry water if you are going out

2. Prevent direct sun exposure

3. Cover your head with an umbrella or hat.

4. Say no to junk outside

5. Avoid going out in the afternoon

6. Consume lemon water, buttermilk, and fruit juices.

7. Eat fruits and vegetables with high water content, such as watermelon, muskmelon, and cucumbers.

8. Stop consuming drinks that lead to dehydration, including, alcohol, tea, coffee, carbonated drinks, and sugary beverages

9. Avoid high-protein, salty, spicy, and oily foods

10. Stay away from strenuous activities like cooking during peak hours, and walking barefoot in the sun.

11. Keep Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) sachets with you.

Stay indoors and try to keep yourself hydrated as much as you can.
