Detox Myths vs Reality: Nowadays, the trade of detoxing the body is in full swing among the common people from social media. Juices, diets, detox teas, herbal supplements. They many such products are being sold in the name of detoxing the body. These are claimed to make you healthier by removing toxins from the body. People are drinking these in droves without consulting a doctor or health experts, but does the body need to be detoxified?


Several Medical experts explain that our body is already capable of detoxing itself. Liver, kidney, lungs and skin work 24 hours a day to remove toxins from the body. This process takes place automatically through sweat, urine and feces. If a person follows a healthy lifestyle then he does not need a separate detox diet.

Detox products are just a marketing game

In the Department of Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, experts explain that unless a person has a serious health problem, such as liver failure or kidney failure. The body does not need a separate detox product. Detox drinks, supplements and diet plans available in the market are often not scientifically proven. The digestive system may be temporarily speeded up, leading to a feeling of lightness, but this is not a true detox.

Experts says that if we eat right, drink plenty of water, exercise daily and sleep well. The natural cleansing process of the body will improve. Drinking only juice or herbal tea for a few days does not remove any toxic elements from the body. On the contrary, doing this for a long time does not provide the body with the necessary nutrients and can cause problems such as weakness, headaches and dizziness.

Who needs a detox?

Yes, some people may need to detox the body. If someone drinks too much alcohol or eats too much processed and junk food then they need to detox. Apart from this, people who take a lot of medicines should also adopt detoxifying foods to keep their liver and kidneys healthy. At the same time, people who are suffering from liver or kidney disease should take the doctor’s advice and follow the right diet.

Natural Body Detox

Drink plenty of water throughout the day so that toxins are naturally flushed out of the body. Eat a diet rich in fibre such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Avoid processed food, high sugar and fried foods. Do light exercise daily to keep the body’s metabolism healthy. Get good sleep so that the body can repair itself.
