Updated Indian Passport Rules 2025: If you are planning to go on a foreign trip, then check your passport first. There have been some amendments in the rules for Indian passport holders. Under this, the requirement of some important documents has been made mandatory for making a new passport. If you are planning to get a passport, then this news is very important for you.


These new passport rules will make the process of getting a passport simpler and more secure for Indian citizens. Special attention has been given to privacy in the amended rules. The Government of India has made many important changes in the passport rules, ranging from mandatory birth certificates to colour-coded passports. Birth certificate mandatory

A person born on or before 1 October 2023 must submit his birth certificate, as it can be the only document for proof of date of birth while applying for a passport. Now birth certificate will have to be attached while applying for a passport. Earlier, the date of birth could also be certified from other documents, but now only the birth certificate will be recognized.


The address will not be printed

While including privacy, the home address will be removed from the passport in writing. Instead, the place of residence will be digitally added as a barcode on the passport which can only be accessed by the immigration officer and no outsider receiving the passport will be able to get your address information.

Colour code passport

The passport has been divided into different categories, which aims to make the identification of passport holders simpler and more systematic. Passports under the category will be in three colours.

White passport: For government officials
Red passport: For diplomats
Blue passport: For general citizens

The guardian’s name will be removed

To strengthen privacy, parents’ names have been removed from the passport. Now the guardian’s name will not be printed on the last page of the passport.

Expansion of passport service centre

To speed up the passport service, the government has set a target of expanding passport service centers, under which 442 passport service centers will be increased to 600 within the next five years.
