Pooja Hegde who made her debut with Oka Laila Kosam in Tollywood recently made headlines with her bold statements about discrimination in the film industry. The actress who has established herself in both Tollywood and Bollywood expressed her concerns regarding the unequal treatment faced by actresses compared to actors.
In a recent interview, Pooja said, “During shoots, male actors have their caravans placed close to the set. But female actors have to walk long distances in heavy costumes. It’s physically exhausting yet this remains a common practice.” She talked about the disparity in the industry by stirring discussions online.
Pooja Hegde further pointed out that the discrimination doesn’t end at the shooting locations. “It’s not just about the sets. Even on movie posters, actresses’ names are often sidelined. We dont receive even little recognition by acting in love stories. Cinema is work of many people involved. This needs to change,” she remarked.
The actress also revealed how she perceives herself within the industry. “Even after spending years in cinema, I sometimes feel like a secon grade citizen. The industry often prioritizes actors over actresses in various aspects,” Pooja shared candidly. Her words clearly indicated what many female artists face in the cinema industry despite their talent and dedication.
In the same interview Pooja also spoke about her experience with online trolling. She shared how constant negativity from meme pages affected her mental well being. “Many times and to me it was a shock. The one thing I’m really bad at is PR. I remember there was a time when I was constantly getting trolled by meme pages and I was like why are they constantly talking negatively about me? It looked targeted. People are spending a lot of money on pulling down other people,” she told.
On the work front, she is soon to be seen in Retro starring Suriya.
