Acting Is An ‘Insecure Profession’ Says Abhay Deol

In a recent interview, actor Abhay Deol confessed that acting is an insecure profession and once believed it could be his end.


Abhay Deol made his big Bollywood debut in 2015 with Socha Na Tha, co-starring Ayesha Takia. Deol recently talked up about his fears of fame, which caused him to take a year off from acting at the peak of his career and contemplate in New York.

In a recent interview, he admitted that the prospect of popularity made him uneasy, influenced by stories he heard growing up and media coverage of his family. Deol stated that acting is a ‘insecure profession’ and that he once “thought acting would be the end of him,” saying that there is no personal life and that one must make significant sacrifices.

In an interview with Filmfare, Abhay Deol stated that life as a star requires compromises, including the loss of personal independence. Reflecting on his journey, he admitted that he was first concerned that popularity would be his undoing, recognizing both the positive and negative parts of his work.

Deol described the film industry as highly competitive, stating that it can be disheartening when individuals you trust do not have your best interests in mind. He also stated that, with the public continually watching, the profession lacks stability and security, which contrasts significantly with a conventional 9-to-5 work.

Deol noted that witnessing individuals say or act negatively toward others had a significant influence on him, emphasizing the emotional toll the profession can exact on those in the spotlight. This encounter influenced his decision to step back.

Abhay’s most recent performance was in the Netflix series Trial By Fire, which costarred Anupam Kher, Rajshri Deshpande, Rajesh Tailang, Ratna Pathak Shah, and others.

Regarding his forthcoming projects, he will soon appear in Bun Tikki, which also stars Zeenat Aman and Shabana Azmi. For the uninitiated, Azmi and Zeenat are reuniting after 40 years for a film called Bun Tikki.

Faraz Arif Ansari directs Bun Tikki, which is co-financed by Manish Malhotra’s Stage 5 Production and Jio Studios. The main photography for Bun Tikki has already been done. However, the makers have yet to set a release date.
