The couple got married in 2005 and had a baby boy named Azad Rao Khan. Due to personal reasons, the couple announced their divorce in 2021. In a recent interview, Aamir was asked to give 11 points on how to be a better husband which was given by Kiran Rao after ending their 16-year-long marriage. Aamir Khan’s Tips: In the interview, Aamir Khan recalled an incident between the couple where Kiran said “You don’t allow other people to talk. I didn’t agree with her, but I wrote it down. Wrote them in my notes on my phone. I thought it would be useful. I’ve been working every day on them, every day I’m working on them.”
Aamir Khan also revealed that Kiran Rao never asked him how to be a better wife. When the interviewer asked about exercises that he has to do to be a good husband, Aamir said, “Why only husbands and why not wives? My Wife never asked me how to be a good one. If ever asked, I would have given a list, Aamir explained.”
The laapta ladies’ director Kiran Rao with her wit answered the question wisely in a funny way. Kiran said, “Okay. Luckily now I’m ex-wife so don’t need to know.” Aamir’s openness about changes and Kiran’s unique approach of giving a list to be a better husband have received mixed reviews.
The couple first met on the sets of “Lagaan” in 2001, where Aamir Played the lead role and Kiran is an assistant director. Their love bloomed and got married on 28th December 2008 and blessed with a baby boy. After 16 years of marriage, the couple got divorced in 2021 and are currently co-parenting their son Azad Rao Khan.
Despite the divorce, they still maintain a good relationship with each other. They both collaborated on the film Laapata Ladies which made to the Oscars. The film directed by Kiran Rao is produced by Aamir Khan. The way they keep their personal and professional life separate is a statement of their mutual respect.
