Peripheral Ring Road: With its smooth connectivity and ability to ease traffic around the city, the Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPRR) is poised to revolutionize urban mobility. This six-lane access-controlled motorway will connect Ennore Port and Mamallapuram across 132.87 kilometers. This will facilitate transportation for both passengers and cargo. With work moving quickly, the project should be finished by the end of 2025, greatly enhancing Chennai’s infrastructure.
The key portions of the CPRR construction are almost finished as of January 2025. While only service road construction is still being done on the Sriperumbudur to Singaperumalkoil segment. The Tiruvallur Bypass to Sriperumbudur length is nearly 79% complete. Tenders are being issued for the last section of land acquisition between Singaperumalkoil and Mamallapuram. However, the complicated terrain causes delays on the Ennore Port to Thatchur portion. The CPRR will improve Chennai’s transportation efficiency and reduce traffic once it is up and running.
This six-lane expressway is going to be constructed to reduce traffic congestion and increase the logistics power. This is going to be the 4th ring road in the city, which is going to connect major highways and towns in Singaperumalkoil, Sriperumbudur, Tiruvallur, Periyapalayam, and Mamallapuram.
The total length of this expressway is going to be 132.87 Kms and the estimated cost of this project is around 12,301 crore rupees. Ten lanes are going to be in this expressway, in that six main lanes and two service lanes on each side of the expressway. This project is undertaken by Tamil Nadu Road Development Company (TNRDC), and there are expecting this to complete by 2025.
