L2: Empuraan Becomes Box Office King, Gives Sikandar Tough Competition

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and director Prithviraj Sukumaran’s much-awaited film L 2 Empuraan has made a tremendous start at the box office. Released on 27 March 2025, the film started making record-breaking earnings from the very first day. L 2 Empuraan Day 4 Collection

The film made a blockbuster collection of Rs 21 crore on the first day of its release, making it the biggest opening Malayalam film ever. Earlier, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s film ‘The Goat Life’ had an opening of Rs 8.5 crore, while Lucifer, released in 2019, earned Rs 6.10 crore on the first day.

Continuing its tremendous earning streak, L 2 Empuraan earned around Rs 11 crore on the second day. On the third day, the film’s collection increased to Rs 13.37 crore. While now on the fourth day, the film has earned a fantastic Rs 14 crore and has done a total business of Rs 59.35 crore. It is clear that Mohanlal’s film is writing a new history for Malayalam cinema. At the same time, Salman Khan’s film Sikandar has earned 26 crores on the first day.

What is special in L 2 Empuraan?

This film is a high-octane action drama based on politics and power struggle, in which Mohanlal is seen in the lead role. Director Prithviraj Sukumaran left no stone unturned to make this sequel bigger and grander than before. Strong story, excellent visual effects and brilliant background score have made it a pan-India level blockbuster.

Looking at the four-day collection of the film, trade experts believe that L2 Empuraan can join the 100 crore club in the coming days. That is, it can prove to be a big milestone for Malayalam films.
