On Tuesday, April 1, the bail hearing for Shariful Islam, one of the people detained in relation to the knife attack on Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan, was held.
However, because the police did not submit their response to the court, the hearings were postponed. The court has ordered the police to provide their response about the bail application, and the next hearing is now set for April 4.
Shehzad, also known as Shariful Islam, has defended his innocence in his plea, saying the case against him is false. The application contends that the First Information Report (FIR) was incorrectly registered and was filed through his attorney, Ajay Gawali. Shehzad also claimed that he has cooperated completely with the current inquiry and that the authorities already have all the required evidence, making any tampering with it impossible.
After the police file the chargesheet, the matter, which is presently being handled in the Bandra Magistrate Court, is anticipated to be moved to the Sessions Court. The Bandra Police have not yet turned in the chargesheet. Saif Ali Khan was attacked on January 16 when Shehzad entered the actor’s Bandra home while reportedly attempting a heist. Khan had serious injuries during the incident, including damage to his thoracic spine and other bodily parts.
After being taken by ambulance to Lilavati Hospital, the actor had treatment there for five days before being released on January 21. According to the Mumbai Police, they have substantial evidence that connects Shehzad to the assault.
According to investigators, he had traveled from Bangladesh to India, staying in several places in Kolkata before finally arriving in Mumbai.
“Whenever an accusation is made, multiple pieces of evidence are collected against it. We have found much oral, physical, and technical evidence against the accused… We have caught the right person,” Additional Commissioner of Police Paramjit Singh Dahiya said in a statement earlier this year, dispelling rumors that the fingerprints could not match.
