Supreme Court Upholds: The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Registrar of the Telangana High Court to visit the place in the Kancha Gachibowli forest where trees are being felled and submit his report. The Supreme Court has directed that the report be submitted on Thursday itself. The state government is allegedly developing 400 acres of land near Hyderabad University in Hyderabad. For this, trees are being felled on a large scale. The students of the university are protesting against this. The Telangana High Court recently banned the felling of trees till 3rd April 2025.
On Thursday, the matter came before a bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice Augustine George Masih in the Supreme Court. The bench said in its direction that ‘We direct the Registrar (Judicial) of the Telangana High Court to visit the concerned place in the Kanch Gachibowli forest where trees are being cut and submit his interim report by 3.30 pm today.’ The bench has directed the Registrar (Judicial) of the Supreme Court to contact the Registrar of the Telangana High Court in this regard.
The Supreme Court has also directed the Chief Secretary of Telangana that no trees should be cut in the Kancha Gachibowli forest till further orders. Now the Supreme Court will hear this matter today at 3.45 pm. The Supreme Court clarified that they are not putting any stay on the hearing of the Telangana High Court. The High Court will hear this matter today.
