In this era of digital payments, UPI (Unified Payments Interface) apps like Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm have made transactions very easy, but now cyber thugs have turned this facility into a weapon. Cyber security experts have recently warned that the number of fake UPI apps exposed is increasing rapidly, which look like real apps and have become a new way to cheat people.
These fake apps look exactly like the real Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm. Fraudsters use these apps to convince shopkeepers that they have made the payment. In some cases, the sound of payment confirmation also comes from the soundbox installed at the shops, which makes it seem that the money has arrived, but in reality no transaction takes place. These apps cheat shopkeepers by showing fake transaction screens and processing messages. According to reports, these fake apps are being shared through Telegram and other online platforms, due to which common people become victims of fraud.

Always confirm transactions in bank account or original UPI app. Do not trust only soundbox voice. Download UPI apps only from Google Play Store or Apple App Store. If a customer is using a new or strange app, be careful. If you are cheated, immediately call the cyber crime helpline 1930 or file a complaint with the police.
