Pawan Kalyan Halts Student’s Exam: On Monday, 30 students were barred from appearing for the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) 2025 in Visakhapatnam due to traffic restrictions reportedly laid out for Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s convoy. The examination, important for admission to National Institutes of Technology (NITs), was held at the ION Digital Zone building in Chinnamusidivada, Pendurthi, at 8:30 am.
B Kalavathi, a mother of one of the students who was affected, was angry and frustrated with the convoy delays. She said her son was delayed to the exam because of stopped traffic as Pawan Kalyan’s car went by on its way to Araku. “We were held up in traffic. It was stopped because Kalyan was going to Araku,” Kalavathi said, pointing out the disruptive effect of the restrictions.
The traffic restrictions allegedly held up multiple students in coming to the exam center on time, causing them to be excluded from the test. Parents highlighted the very high stakes of this exam and the catastrophic effect on their children’s academic prospects. Appeals for mercy to admit delayed students to the examination went unheard.

Visakhapatnam police refuted any direct link between the convoy and the delay in examinations. They said that candidates had to arrive by 7:00 am and gates would close at 8:30 am. The police said Pawan Kalyan’s convoy moved through the area at 8:41 am, past the entry deadline.
The incident has sparked widespread debate about prioritizing public convenience during high-profile events. Parents and concerned groups have urged authorities to consider rescheduling the examination for the affected candidates. Advocating for fairness in such crucial scenarios.
This controversy sheds light on the urgency of sound traffic management and coordination amidst public occasions such that citizen inconvenience remains negligible during times as crucial as competitive examinations. This controversy also pinpoints accountability for actions undertaken by powerful authorities.
