Reassigned but not retained
JPL reportedly tried to keep her on board by reassigning her to a newly created position, “Chief of the Office of Team Excellence and Employee Success.” Attention has been drawn to Neela Rajendra’s departure from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), especially in light of the larger institutional and political backdrop.

According to the sources, JPL director Laurie Leshin confirmed Neela Rajendra’s departure in an email addressed to all employees on Thursday, April 10. She wrote, “Neela Rajendra is no longer working at (The Jet Propulsion Laboratory).” She left a lasting impression on our organization, for which we are immensely thankful. We hope the best for her.

NASA Layoffs:
Due to financial limitations, the NASA facility let off about 900 workers in 2024. According to the internal sources JPL’s diversity office was formally abolished. However, Rajendra, who had played a key role in those efforts. Following that, she continued to work in a modest capacity, although her position was modified to “head of employee success.”
According to reports, she carried out many of the same duties under the new title even though DEI was removed from her official profile.
