Aarthi Subramanian was named the new Executive Director President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the biggest IT business in India, with effect from May 1, 2025. This information was from an exchange filing.

The filing data indicates that Subramanian would take on the role of COO for the IT company TCS for five years, from May 1, 2025, to April 30, 2030. With TCS’s decision, Subramanian becomes the company’s first female COO and one of the few females in India’s male-dominated IT industry. Subramanian began her professional career in 1989 as a graduate trainee with Tata Consultancy Services, where she subsequently rose to the positions of analyst and project manager. Afterward, she advanced to senior executive positions in the IT major and account management positions.

Who is Aarthi Subramanian?

As the Group Chief Digital Officer at Tata Sons, the main holding company and promoter of all Tata companies, Aarthi Subramanian presently works for the Tata Group. Since she oversees the conglomerate’s digital, technological, and innovative demands across its several business sectors, Subramanian has experience in both operations and technology.

“She has played a crucial role at Tata Sons in ensuring that Tata Group companies use digital technologies to improve customer engagement, operational efficiency, and competitive advantage,” TCS stated in the exchange filing.

Regarding education, Aarthi Subramanian graduated from the National Institute of Technology in Warangal with a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science. She later graduated from the University of Kansas in the United States with a Master’s degree in Engineering Management.

Aarthi’s Career Growth:
According to the internal sources, Subramanian has worked for the Tata Group for more than thirty years. She first held the position of Head of Delivery for the Retail and CPG Business Unit at TCS before moving on to become the Executive Director and Global Head of Delivery Excellence, Governance, and Compliance.

In the Tata Group, Subramanian also held important roles as a director at Tata Capital, Tata AIA Life Insurance Co., and TCS. She has also held the position of Director at Infiniti Retail Limited, where she was in charge of managing Croma, Tata’s electronic retail division.

According to official statistics, Subramanian was also the director of Tata UniStore Ltd., Supermarket Grocery Supplies Pvt. Ltd., and Tata Digital Pvt. Ltd. In addition to being a seasoned professional, Subramanian enjoys a wide range of other pastimes, including reading books about management, watching movies, listening to music, and exercising.
