Match Fixing Threat to IPL: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been careful about a bookie-sponsored link to a Hyderabad businessman. Who is said to be in touch with bookies and match-fixing syndicates. The Hyderabad businessman, as per the Anti-Corruption Security Unit (ACSU), is trying to poach IPL players, officials, and franchise members who have the ability to influence the integrity of the tournament.
To protect the league, the BCCI has also put out an advisory cautioning owners, players, coaches, and commentators. And support staff against doing business with the businessman. The ACSU has also asked all concerned with the IPL to report if there has been any contact or proposal extended by them.
He is reported to be trying to join the IPL circuit by masquerading as a fan. Visiting team hotels, stadiums, and private events in a bid to win over players and staff.
One of his methods is that he bribes people with the finer things in life. Such as jewellery and other luxuries, as one of his methods for becoming powerful and being trusted. He has even been known to take the families of players and owners out on a spending spree to high-end jewellers and hotels.
The ACSU has warned that social media platforms are being used by individuals. To contact players’ relatives and close associates, raising further alarm over his expanding influence in the league.
This is a case of potential future complications in upholding the integrity of IPL. Especially as technology advances to facilitate illegal betting syndicates. The ACSU has remained vigilant, reminding teams and parties involved in the tournament to remain vigilant and report any suspicious action.
