Indian Stock Markets Closed Today:

With Friday as the holiday, investors enjoy a long weekend. Markets reopen on Monday, April 21, resuming regular activity.

April sees its third stock market holiday today. Earlier this month, April 10 marked Mahavir Jayanti, and April 14 celebrated Ambedkar Jayanti. The BSE includes these holidays in its official calendar released each year.

The next holiday appears on May 1 for Maharashtra Day. Another break falls on May 12 for Buddha Purnima. From August through December, markets observe seven more holidays beyond regular weekends.

Holidays List

Upcoming stock market holidays in 2025 include:

– May 1 – Maharashtra Day

– May 12 – Buddha Purnima

– August 15 – Independence Day

– August 27 – Ganesh Chaturthi

– September 5 – Id-E-Milad

– October 2 – Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra

– Oct 21 – Diwali (Laxmi Pujan)

– Octo22 – Diwali Balipratipada

– November 5 – Prakash Gurpurab (Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti)

Markets posted strong gains on April 17 before the break. Sensex rose 1,509 points to finish at 78,553.20. Nifty 50 advanced 414 points, closing at 23,851.65, fueled by positive domestic news and investor optimism.

Mid and small-cap stocks showed moderate gains. The BSE Midcap index climbed 0.56%, while the Smallcap index rose 0.52%.

Markets ended the shortened week on a strong note. Banking stocks led the rally, with most sectors joining the upward trend. Nifty approached previous highs. Investors now anticipate quarterly results from Infosys, HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank early next week.

Analysts advise a “buy on dips” strategy for long-term positions. Interest rate-sensitive sectors offer opportunities, while caution remains key elsewhere.
