New Highway Rule: 5-Year Deadline for Highway Projects

New Highway Rule: 5-Year Deadline for Highway Projects

New Highway Rule: While the construction of new highways and development projects brings happiness, individuals who are losing their lands are also filled with fear. They are haunted by the uncertainty of not knowing when they will receive the compensation, even though the government claims to offer it. Furthermore, the speed of development activities is being slowed down by the years-long vacancy of the purchased land without its immediate use for projects. Ending this scenario is a top priority for the central government.

A revolutionary policy is about to be introduced by the central government. This new regulation mandates that any land purchased for national highway building must be finished within five years. The center has stated unequivocally that the land purchased from the owners must be given back to them if that does not occur. In addition, three months following the payment of compensation, the owners’ rights that have been ceded their land for projects will be forfeited. This policy’s draft has already been created. The national government is prepared to enact legislation and put it into effect.

New Rule for All Major Projects:

National highways are not the only places covered by this new policy. Lands purchased for projects by other important ministries, such as civil aviation, railroads, defense, shipping, coal, and the environment, will also be subject to the same regulation. It is no longer possible to acquire land for development purposes and then leave it undeveloped for years without building roads. The primary goal of the central government is to prevent the lands that are taken for development from becoming worthless.

However, there are also complaints that land acquisition is going beyond what is required in some locations and that some road construction is moving at a glacial pace. In order to eliminate such inconsistencies and increase transparency in the land acquisition process, the Center will implement this new policy. Those who have lost their lands will receive justice within a certain time limit if this policy is put into effect.

Faster Roads, Clear Rules:

Additionally, a dedicated website will be developed by the central government to facilitate the implementation of this new policy. Comprehensive information will be available on this website, including the extent of land purchased, the money awarded to the landowners, and their details. Road development will go more quickly if Parliament approves this measure, which will also provide clear guidelines for compensation and land purchase. The Union Ministry of Roads, Transport, and Highways officials hope that this will be very helpful for development projects and for individuals who have lost their lands.
