Convict Issues Death Threat: A convict, unhappy with the verdict, threatened a female judge during a court session. He warned her that she would meet her end while she was watching. A Delhi court, which conducted a trial as part of a check bounce case, found a man guilty. In the process, a female judge imposed a fine and sentence on the man. However, the convict, who was extremely angry when the judge did not rule in his favour, threatened the woman judge. She threw an object that was handed to him and said, “You don’t know who I am, come out. I will see if you go home alive.” His lawyer also expressed his anger at the judge. A 63-year-old retired government school teacher from Delhi is an accused in a check bounce case. However, his case was heard in a Delhi court on April 2. In this process, the female judge convicted the accused under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act . The convict, who was extremely angry with this, harassed the female judge. While in the courtroom, he warned that he would see to it that he would be punished. If you come out, he said that he would see how you would go home alive. A lawyer named Atul Kumar, who was representing the convict, did not intervene when the convict became aggressive. Instead, Atul physically assaulted the convict and warned the judge to drop the case against his client or face consequences. During this altercation, the convict threw an object at the judge, but fortunately, it missed. Angered, the convict began to verbally abuse the judge and his family, pressuring him to change the verdict and release him. Atul Kumar also harassed the judge, threatening that if his client was not released, the judge should resign.
With this, female judge Shivangi Mangla said that she would file a complaint with the National Commission for Women against the convict and lawyer Atul Kumar. She once again mentioned that she would give the verdict without being afraid of their harassment and warnings. Thus, the case was adjourned to April 5. When the last day came, show cause notices were issued to lawyer Atul Kumar. She also suggested that he should give a written explanation as to why criminal contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him for the way he behaved with the woman judge. The convict was also sentenced to 22 months of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 6.65 lakh. The convict filed a petition in the sessions court against this order. With this, the sentence was suspended for a month till the date of hearing. In this process, he was granted bail on a surety of Rs. 30,000.
