Pahalgam Terror Attack: The recent terror attack in Pahalgam has shaken the heart of Kashmir and left its people in deep distress. Just when the region was welcoming thousands of tourists, this tragic incident has turned a peaceful tourist spot into a scene of fear and uncertainty.

Located 92 kilometers from Srinagar, Pahalgam is known for its natural beauty and is a key location for tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. The attack not only caused loss of lives but also damaged the image of Kashmir as a safe travel destination. Streets that were once full of tourists now look empty, and local businesses have shut their doors.

Tourism is a major source of income for many people in the region. Hoteliers, Shikara riders, homestay owners, and local vendors had invested heavily in the hope of a booming tourist season. Some even took loans or sold personal belongings like land and jewelry to grow their businesses. Now, they are left with debts and no clear way to repay them.

The 2025 tourist season had started well. Over 8 lakh visitors came to see the tulip garden in Srinagar within a month. Foreign tourist arrivals had also increased, with more than 43,000 international visitors in 2024 alone. The government had been working hard to promote Kashmir as a safe destination, even hosting a G20 tourism meeting in Srinagar in 2023.

However, the Pahalgam attack has undone much of this effort. Tourists are scared, and many are canceling their plans. This not only affects the economy but also puts the upcoming Amarnath Yatra at risk, which attracts lakhs of pilgrims every year.

The local people are angry and heartbroken. They protested after the attack, demanding justice and expressing fear for their future. For Kashmir, tourism is not just about money—it’s about pride, peace, and progress. This attack has made everything uncertain once again.

If normalcy doesn’t return soon, the people of Kashmir may lose their biggest hope for a better life.
