IRCTC: Automatic Allocation Of Lower Berths: Indian Railways is debating introducing a fresh policy to enable ease and comfort for travellers in the form of automatic allocation of lower berths to women more than 45 years and males more than 60 years. The initiative illustrates the organisation’s desire to cater to a seamless travelling experience for people who will have physical hardships reaching upper berths.
This problem of inconvenience in climbing to higher berths has long been a point of concern for elderly travellers as well as women who like to travel with more ease. Identifying this need, Indian Railways is in the process of incorporating this facility into its passenger reservation system. The automatic allocation will relieve the traveller from the hassle and eradicate the necessity of making special requests at the time of booking.
Lower berths are more accessible, particularly for people who might have mobility issues. Through automatic allocation, Indian Railways hopes to enhance passengers’ travel experience, making it more comfortable and inclusive. The intended policy will not only alleviate physical discomfort but also provide enhanced safety during long-distance train travel, especially for women and elderly people.
The allocation will be combined with the ongoing Passenger Reservation System (PRS). So that passengers who are in the age group and gender brackets specified automatically get lower berths at the time of booking tickets. The move is part of Indian Railways’ vision to use technology for increased customer satisfaction. Nevertheless, feasibility tests and trials will be conducted before its complete rollout.
