Major Terror Attacks in Jammu & Kashmir: Jammu & Kashmir has had its share of turbulence as well, having endured a sequence of terror strikes that tried and tested the mettle of the region. Punitively targeting pilgrims to high-powered political centers, the sorrowful history of these tragedies is a reflection of the relentless attempts at interfering with peace and security.


Amarnath Yatra Attack (March 21, 2000)

One of the initial attacks on Hindu pilgrims, the militants masterminded during the sacred Amarnath Yatra, cost numerous lives. The attack was a stark reminder of the susceptibility of religious gatherings.

J&K Legislature Complex Attack (October 1, 2001)

A brutal and daring assault by terrorists on the legislature complex in Srinagar caused mass-scale deaths and attacked the very epicenter of the political machinery of the state.


IED Blast at Lower Munda (23 November 2002)

Lower Munda, a key transit area, was razed when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated, killing and injuring passengers and security personnel.

Nadimarg Massacre (23 March 2003)

The Nadimarg massacre is etched in history as a sad day when some of the Kashmiri Pandits were attacked, increasing communal tensions in the Kashmir valley.

Pulwama Blast (13 June 2005)

Pulwama was targeted by another terror attack as militants staged explosions, leading to a senseless civilian fatality and locals’ fear.

Amarnath Yatra Bus Attack (July 10, 2017)

Militants ambushed pilgrims going to Amarnath, and innocent civilians were murdered. The attack enraged the whole country.

Pulwama Terror Attack (February 14, 2019)

A fatal attack, the deadliest suicide blast, on CRPF personnel, in which 40 soldiers lost their lives. It met with universal condemnation and was an incitement to further counter-terror raids.

Pahalgam Terror Attack (22 April, 2025)

Earlier, Pahalgam had been attacked by terrorists in which militants indiscriminately opened fire on civilians, putting the picturesque beauty to grief.
