Hyderabad Metro Launches TUTEM for Women’s Safety

TUTEM App: Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) announced on Thursday that it has developed a new technological solution, TUTEM (Technologies for Urban Transit to Enhance Mobility and Safe Accessibility), to help women travelers reach their destinations safely. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) supported the development of this initiative.

App Design & Features:

HMRL Managing Director N V S Reddy stated that BITS Pilani-Hyderabad Campus developed the software in collaboration with HMRL, Hyderabad Police, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Bombay. He shared this during a user workshop at BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus. Reddy explained that although most of the commute happens via Metro Rail, the app also covers pre- and post-metro travel, such as walking, two-wheelers, cars, buses, or auto-rickshaws, to ensure a safe journey from home to destination.

Safety with Instant Alerts

Reddy stated that the software offers features to ensure the safe commute of public transportation users, especially women, and consists of two parts: a driver app and a user app. He also mentioned that the app enables women travelers to quickly alert the police control center, as well as their family members, if they feel threatened during their journey.

Reddy further explained that TUTEM includes various facilities to ensure smooth travel to and from Metro stations. He emphasized that the Metro Rail project aligns with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s public safety agenda.
