The US-China trade war has opened economic vacancies, and Uttar Pradesh (UP) is eyeing this as an opportunity to expand its export horizon. Uttar Pradesh state government, headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, seeks to triple exports by 2030 and position UP as a global trade hub amid Indo Pak tensions.
Uttar Pradesh has also experienced tremendous export growth from ₹88,967 crore to more than ₹2 lakh crore since the introduction of One District One Product (ODOP) scheme. The scheme is aimed at supporting local products and developing local industries. Uttar Pradesh is becoming a preferred destination for investors relocating operations from China with improvement in better law and order, world-class infrastructure, and talent manpower.
The UP government has given most priority to expressways, airports, and interstate waterways in order to facilitate trouble-free logistics for exporters. Availability of cheap labor and the expanding MSME ecosystem is merely another dimension of the state as a business-friendly destination. The government is thus looking to invite international companies in search of stability amidst disruption around the world with these initiatives.
New Export Policy to Boost Investments
To facilitate easier investor interaction, the government is establishing a new policy for exports to ensure Invest UP becomes efficient and transparent. The new policy will include an Export Promotion Fund, which will go a long way in promoting Brand UP globally so that the local industries become more visible across the globe.
International Trade Show & Global Branding
Uttar Pradesh is aggressively marketing its products on international platforms, such as the International Trade Show at India Expo Centre and Mart in Greater Noida during September 25-27. The event, with Vietnam as the partner country, will expose UP’s rich products to visitors from 70 countries, increasing its global presence. Mass-scale promotional events in Maharashtra, Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and major airports will also support branding activities.
Domination of Leather & Footwear Exports
UP is presently dominating India’s leather and footwear exports at 46% of India’s total exports. To continue its leadership, the government intends to introduce a specific Leather & Footwear Policy supporting key areas such as Kanpur, Unnao, and Agra.
Through strategic investment, infrastructural growth, and policy initiatives, Uttar Pradesh will emerge as a world exporting leader, surfing the trade shifts towards economic growth.
