R Madhavan on Why He Feared Romantic Movies Till Now

R Madhavan, who rose to fame with his romantic roles in movies such as Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein and Tanu Weds Manu, recently discussed how romantic films are no longer being made in Bollywood. Speaking openly in an interview, R Madhavan on Why He feared romantic genre till now. he was dismayed that there were no good love stories, particularly those involving mature heroes.


R Madhavan has been the most iconic lover boy in his era. With many films like Sakhi, Cheli, etc, his immense fanbase has got much higher with the lover boy image.

Madhavan revealed that modern romantic films lack depth and originality. Thus it is difficult for actors like him to find interesting scripts. He explained that Bollywood has turned to action thrillers at the expense of the classic love stories that defined the industry.


Admiration of Shah Rukh Khan
While talking about the condition of romance in Bollywood, Madhavan complimented Shah Rukh Khan as the undisputed romance king. He said that nobody but SRK romances, but also suggested the difficulty in getting age-appropriate heroines for these films2.

The Need for Better Writing
Madhavan reasserted that it’s not that people don’t want it but rather that there just aren’t good-researched scripts. He believes there’s still room for adult romance stories to reach the people as long as writers are dedicated to emotional depth and realism.

Next Romantic Movie
Despite his fears, Madhavan will once again be seen in a romance, Aap Jaisa Koi, starring Fatima Sana Shaikh. Vivek Soni directs the film in an attempt to resurrect the vintage love story genre. Having a crazy fanbase as the lover boy, R Madhavan can grab the audience to the threatres at once. He is ready to prove romance is still a part of Indian cinema.
