The summit, held at Mumbai’s Jio World Convention Centre, brought together global leaders, content creators, and industry pioneers to discuss the future of film, music, gaming, and digital storytelling.
What is the Orange Economy?
The Orange Economy, also known as the Creative Economy, encompasses industries driven by content, creativity, and culture. This includes film production, digital content, gaming, fashion, music, and live concerts. PM Modi highlighted that India is emerging as a global hub for these sectors, with the potential to significantly boost the country’s GDP and employment opportunities.
Speaking in his keynote address, PM Modi said, “This is the dawn of the Orange Economy in India.” He asserted that Indian cinema, music, and food are gaining ever greater popularity throughout the world. And that the government has taken a conscious step towards growing content creators by supporting them. They support through initiatives like Skill India and startups. He also called out to Indian youth to tell their untold stories to the world. Resonating with the phrase “Create in India, Create for the World.”
The conference saw attendance of over 10,000 delegates, 1,000 creators, 300 companies, and 350 startups from 90+ nations. Industry major players like Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan, and Instagram Head Adam Mosseri attended the conversation about India’s role in scripting the entertainment destiny.
Impact on India’s Media and Entertainment Industry
PM Modi highlighted that India’s media and entertainment sector generated a revenue of ₹2.5 lakh crore in 2024, and when the Orange Economy flourished, the sector was geared up to expand manyfold. Business tycoon Mukesh Ambani has estimated that India’s entertainment industry was going to cross $100 billion in the coming decade. This also promotes entrepreneurship and employment.
