Record Aadhaar Authentications: In a remarkable achievement, India has seen a record number of Aadhaar authentications in the last financial year.
By March 2025, Aadhaar authentications are estimated to have crossed 2,707 crore, with 247 crore transactions happening just in the month of March. Since the Aadhaar system was introduced, the total number of authentications has now reached a staggering 14,800 crore.
Aadhaar authentication is the process of verifying an individual’s identity using their unique Aadhaar number. This is done through an OTP sent to a linked mobile number or by fingerprint authentication at various service points.
UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has developed an AI-based facial authentication solution, which has become widely popular. In March alone, over 15 crore face authentications were carried out. More than 100 government and private organizations are using Aadhaar face authentication for various services. For its innovative work, UIDAI received the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration.
Aadhaar-based e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) transactions have also surged. By March 2025, the number of Aadhaar e-KYC transactions is expected to reach 44.63 crore. In the 2024-25 financial year, a total of 2,356 crore e-KYC transactions were conducted. Moreover, March saw the issuance of 20 lakh new Aadhaar numbers, and nearly 2 crore Aadhaar cards were successfully updated.
In addition to these impressive numbers, Aadhaar continues to play a key role in transforming India’s digital landscape. With innovations like face authentication and seamless e-KYC services, UIDAI is making significant strides in ensuring secure and efficient access to government and private sector services. This progress marks a new chapter in India’s digital future.
