India Stock Market Today:

On May 6, 2025, the Indian stock market closed lower, with both the Sensex and Nifty ending in the red. The Sensex dropped by 155 points to settle at 80,641, while the Nifty 50 fell by 0.33% to close at 24,379. The fall was mainly driven by a broad sell-off, especially in public sector bank (PSU bank) stocks.

India Stock Market Today:

Almost all sectors ended the day with losses, except the auto sector, which remained mostly unchanged. PSU banking stocks were the worst hit, with the Nifty PSU Bank index falling by nearly 4.84%. Auto stocks, particularly Mahindra & Mahindra, offered some support but couldn’t stop the overall decline.

One of the key reasons for the negative mood was weak signals from Wall Street, which recently ended its nine-day winning streak. Investors were also cautious due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan, especially as India is set to conduct a mock civil defence drill. These concerns added to global uncertainty.

Pharma stocks also fell after U.S. President Donald Trump signed a new order to promote domestic drug manufacturing, which could affect Indian exporters. The Nifty Pharma index fell 1.8%.

In mid- and small-cap segments, the losses were even sharper. The Nifty Midcap 100 dropped by 2.27%, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 sank by 2.50%.

On the positive side, CCL Products saw a strong rally, gaining 16% after reporting record quarterly profits and revenues.

Meanwhile, Moody’s lowered India’s GDP growth forecast for 2025 to 6.3%, down from 6.5%, citing global economic slowdown and geopolitical risks.

Looking ahead, the U.S. Federal Reserve’s upcoming policy decision is being closely watched. Experts say the Nifty may remain range-bound unless it moves decisively above 24,500 or below 24,200.

Overall, investor confidence remains shaky due to international pressures and domestic political uncertainty.
