Operation Sindoor: After effects and risks to consider

Operation Sindoor, which India initiated as a response to the Pahalgam terror attack, has already changed the geopolitics significantly. Although the operation was able to target nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, its aftereffects hold a list of risks and challenges.

Operation Sindoor: After effects and risks:

The Indian Military’s precision strikes have made ways for the increasing tensions between India and Pakistan. Pakistan responded with shelling along the Line of Control (LoC), which has fueled concerns of more military confrontations. The international community, the United Nations, and the United States have called on both countries to be calm.

Geopolitical threats:

These are thought to have risen after Operation Sindoor has impacted the sentiment in the market. Uncertainty over retaliatory attacks has prompted defensive trading in Indian markets3. Specialists opine that if the situation is brought under control, markets will come back in an instant, but a long conflict can result in economic turmoil.
Pakistan’s Possible Response

Defense experts envision that Pakistan would respond symbolically and not violently because of its weak military, diplomatic, and economic resources. Even if Pakistan would try measures against the re-escalation, an extensive war is unfeasible considering international pressure as well as monetary constraints4.
Long-Term Security Implications

Operation Sindoor has reaffirmed India’s approach to counter-terror operations with the declaration of a zero-tolerance policy on cross-border terror. But there is always the possibility of such attacks happening again in the future, as terrorist outfits can regroup and launch a revenge campaign. Intelligence agencies will have to keep their eyes open to check further security threats.

Even though Operation Sindoor has been successful in targeting terror infrastructure, its consequences are major challenges. Possibility of escalation, economic implications, and security issues will need to be addressed carefully by diplomatic and strategic moves in the coming weeks. Even as world leaders urge restraint, there will be the concern for maintaining stability and yet ensuring national security.
