In response to the sequence of India’s surgical strikes on Pakistani terrorist infrastructure and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) in Operation Sindoor, the Pakistan Army Defies Ceasefire pact by shelling artillery at Poonch and Rajouri. The Indian Army retaliated accordingly while safeguarding the civilians and putting the situation in order.
Background: Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor was initiated in reply to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 individuals. Indian forces launched nine terror locations using precision-guided ordnance with maximum care not to injure civilians. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh complimented the operation, noting that it had been conducted with “precision, alertness, and sensitivity”.
Hours after Operation Sindoor, Pakistani artillery fire was used at Bhimber Gali, Poonch, and Tangdhar, resulting in 15 civilian casualties and 43 injuries. In a counter reaction, the Indian Army, led by Chief of Army Staff Gen Upendra Dwivedi. Reacted to the issue to ensure Pakistan’s aggression did not intensify their agression further.
The Indian Army was put on high alert, and the troops were granted operational autonomy to respond to Pakistan’s action. The Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) verified that the Indian Army “responded appropriately” to the shelling by Pakistan. The government reiterated that India is determined to protect its borders and civilians.
Political and Strategic Implications
The ceasefire breach is claimed to have led to worry over the intentions of Pakistan and potential escalations. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called for an urgent meeting to review the situation. Defence analysts think that Pakistan’s act is a retaliatory response after India successfully attacked under Operation Sindoor.
With the relations strained following Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army keeps a vigilant eye on probable ceasefire breaches. The government has reassured people that national security is its prime concern, and any act of aggression from Pakistan would be met with a determined and stern reaction
