India-Pakistan Ceasefire:
On May 10, 2025, India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire following days of rising conflict along the borders. This development came after several serious incidents, including drone attacks, missile interceptions, and cross-border shelling. The agreement to stop military action on land, sea, and air was announced after talks between both countries’ military officials.
Earlier, the Indian Army intercepted and destroyed a Pakistani missile over Jaisalmer. Drones were also shot down near Amritsar and Jamnagar. Indian forces destroyed multiple terror launchpads across the border under “Operation Sindoor”. Top terrorists were eliminated, and military posts were targeted. However, the Indian Armed Forces clarified that no religious sites were harmed and that their actions focused only on terrorist infrastructure.
Meanwhile, high-level meetings were held in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with all three military chiefs and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) from both sides agreed to the ceasefire, effective from 5 PM IST.
The international community, including the United States, welcomed the move. US officials, including Secretary of State Maro Rubio, praised both Prime Ministers—Modi and Sharif—for choosing peace. Former US President Donald Trump also acknowledged the agreement.
Indian political leaders from different parties supported the ceasefire, calling for long-term peace. Meanwhile, security was tightened in border areas like Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, and South Gujarat. Train services were adjusted, and a full lockdown was imposed in Jaisalmer due to safety concerns.
India also stated that any future terror act will be treated as an act of war and dealt with strongly. With this understanding, both nations are expected to hold more talks on May 12 aiming for a peaceful resolution to ongoing issues.
