What India meant in Agreement of India Pakistan Ceasefire

India and Pakistan agreed on a near-instantaneous ceasefire in a recent understanding, suspending military operations over land, sea, and air. The development followed increased tension in the aftermath of a terrorist strike in Jammu and Kashmir that prompted India to launch Operation Sindoor to hit terror camps inside Pakistan and in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Big nation India Pakistan Ceasefire  was an important diplomatic landmark as India clearly put forth its position of peace while showing unflinching opposition to terror.


India meant in Agreement of Ceasefire

India has always insisted that any ceasefire accord should be in accordance with its national security concerns and anti-terrorism policies. The Indian government made it clear that the ceasefire was negotiated bilaterally with Pakistan, without third-party intervention. Although the United States asserted that it had a role in facilitating the agreement, India insisted that the decision was taken on its own terms.

When they settled for the ceasefire, there were some key points in mind.


India never starts the first strike, this is a fact which has been a mutual understanding for all these years. Even today, India will abide by the ceasefire agreement till Pakistan stands on it.

Future diplomatic negotiations to deal with wider security issues.

India’s Unyielding Stand Against Terrorism

In spite of accepting the ceasefire, India reiterated its unyielding position against terrorism. The government declared that although peace is something to be sought after, it will continue to take steps necessary to protect its sovereignty and security4. Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty was also declared as part of India’s reaction to Pakistan’s supposed support for cross-border terrorism.

International Reactions

The ceasefire accord was welcomed by the world, with leaders hailing India and Pakistan for opting for diplomacy over war. The United States, which had claimed to have brokered the negotiations, praised both countries for their sagacity and discretion. India, however, insisted that the accord was negotiated in direct bilateral talks.

India’s place in the ceasefire accord demonstrates commitment to peace alongside the preservation of its national interest in security. The accord brings a chance at de-escalation, although India maintains carefulness in tackling terrorism and security in the region.
