Hyderabad Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge has become a popular tourist spot in the city. It attracts visitors with its colorful lights at night. It provides a comfortable journey to the passengers and stands as a wonderful sight. A similar cable bridge will also be available in Khammam town.

Munneru Cable bridge: Rs 180 Cr Project?

The work on the beautiful cable bridge being constructed on the Munneru River in Khammam city, modeled after the Durgam Cheruvu, is progressing rapidly. This bridge, which is being constructed at a cost of about Rs. 180 crore, will bring a unique identity to Khammam city. Wide footpaths, colorful electric lights, and other attractive features will be installed to facilitate vehicular traffic as well as tourists.

Work is in full swing to ensure that the bridge pillars reach the slab level by the next monsoon season. Although the work was stopped due to floods last year, steps are being taken to withstand the floods this time. The construction of 15 pillars has already been completed on both sides of the river. The process of placing concrete slabs on these is underway. 50 percent of the 128 concrete segments required for the construction of a four-lane road on the bridge have already been placed.

In particular, the two main pillars (P-7, P-8) to be constructed in the middle of the river, on which the bridge cables depend, have reached the final stage of concrete work. This unique cable bridge design reduces the need for more pillars in the middle of the river. The strong cable bridge installed from these two pillars alone will carry the entire load. The bridge will be 21 meters wide, with a four-lane road with a divider in the middle, and footpaths on both sides. Traffic on the old bridge is currently stopped.

While the work on the approach road is progressing rapidly, the authorities are working to restore traffic soon. Officials say that once this cable bridge is completed, Khammam city will become a new tourist destination.
