JeM Terrorist rejects mother’s plea: “Let Army Come” Before Encounter

In Pulwama district of South Kashmir, Jaish-e-Mohammed JeM Terrorist rejects mother’s plea.  Aamir Nazir Wani spurned his mother’s pleading to surrender during a video call a few minutes before he was gunned down by security forces on Thursday, May 15, 2025. The three-hour-long operation concluded with three JeM terrorists getting neutralized.

JeM Terrorist rejects mother’s plea:

The operation is set against the background of increased tensions in the region after a recent terrorist attack on April 22, 2025, in Pahalgam killed 26 individuals. After the attack, Indian security forces initiated “Operation Sindoor,” a cycle of revenge attacks on terrorist bases. The operation was said to have encompassed attacks on JeM bases in Pakistan, resulting in the elimination of senior leaders and handlers such as Abdul Rauf Azhar, the head of operations of JeM and mastermind of the 1999 IC-814 hijack, and members of Maulana Masood Azhar’s clan.

Mother’s Desperate Appeal Goes Unheeded

When the security personnel had surrounded the Tral area on the strength of concrete intelligence inputs that militants were there, there was a dramatic scene. One of the trapped terrorists, Aamir Nazir Wani, was compelled to take a video call from his mother. In the video which emerged later, the mother is heard pathetically appealing to her son to surrender and lay down arms so that he could live.

“Let Army Come”: Rebel Last Words

Despite the pleas of his tearful mother, Aamir Nazir Wani was unmoved. Holding an AK-47 rifle in the footage, he is said to have declined her appeal, refusing to surrender and announcing that he was ready for a face-off with the security personnel. His final words, reports stated, were “Let army come.” Having declined to surrender, the terrorists began firing at the security forces, and a intense firefight erupted.

Encounter Winds Up with Neutralization of Three Terrorists

The second encounter was a combined effort by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Rashtriya Rifles (RR), and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Drones are said to have been used for the first time in the operation. There was an exchange of firing for three hours, following which all three JeM terrorists, Aamir Nazir Wani among them, were neutralized. Security officials said there were no casualties from the security forces. The remaining two deceased terrorists were confirmed as Shafat Muzaffar Sofi alias Muavia and Asif Ahmad Rather alias Asif Maqbool.

Significance of the Operation Sindoor:

Security forces have described this operation as a massive blow to the Jaish-e-Mohammed network in South Kashmir, particularly in the Tral belt, which has been the purview of counter-terrorist operations. That the terrorist did not surrender even when his mother made a emotional appeal reflects the delicate situation that security forces are in while dealing with highly radicalized individuals.

Impact of Family Appeals on Surrenders

Although this case ended up being tragic, in a few other instances in the past, such appeals by families, especially mothers, have been able to convince young Kashmiri militants to surrender to security forces and reintegrate into society. Security forces usually attempt to engage the families in such instances because they understand the emotional leverage they can create. Yet, these calls get lost in extremist ideology and fears of retribution within terror outfits sometimes, like in this tragic case in Tral.
