India calls US Trump ‘Major trade partner’ Post Operation Sindoor

India has responded guardedly to Donald Trump’s recent claims that the United States mediated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Government officials have clarified that there was no third-party mediation and underlined the importance of U.S.-India trade relations. India calls US Trump ‘Major trade partner’ based on the ongoing relations tied with trade between the countries.

Trump’s Ceasefire Claim
On May 12, 2025, Trump made this announcement during a press conference. Trump disclosed that his administration had brokered an all-encompassing and total ceasefire between Pakistan and India and had thereby averted nuclear war. According to him, the ceasefire came as a result of round-the-clock negotiations sponsored by the U.S.

India’s Reaction: ‘No Third-Party Mediation’
Indian government officials have dismissed Trump’s claim, stating that the ceasefire agreement was settled between India and Pakistan directly without the interference of any foreign powers. Officials reaffirmed that India never consented to third-party mediation with regard to matters regarding Jammu and Kashmir or military conflict with Pakistan.

India’s Stand on the Ceasefire
Sources indicate that ceasefire talks began after Pakistan requested de-escalation, after India’s Operation Sindoor against terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). India claimed that it never requested escalation unless provoked and took matters into its hands.

India calls US Trump ‘Major trade partner’

Even as it rejected Trump’s allegation of ceasefire, Indian authorities acknowledged the strategic importance of Indo-American trade. They pointed out that the U.S. remains one of India’s biggest trading partners, helping to maintain bilateral trade, partnerships in technology, investments, and visa policy.

Trump also revealed that he put pressure on India and Pakistan to cease hostilities by warning them that he would cut off trade relations if they did not do so. Indian sources, however, have denied any reference to trade during ceasefire negotiations, stating that no reference to trade was made in discussions with American representatives.

India’s Military Strength & Global Recognition
Indian officials highlighted the fact that India’s defense capabilities have greatly improved since previous wars like Kargil, and the recent precision strikes demonstrated its supremacy in defense. They highlighted the fact that Western media had acknowledged India’s military might, establishing itself as a world power.
