iPhone Made in America:
Recently, former US President Donald Trump suggested that Apple should make iPhones in America instead of India. This statement has created a big discussion in the tech and business world. Experts warn that if iPhones are made in the US, the price could become three times higher than now.
Prashant Girbane, Director of the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, said that moving iPhone production to the US is not a smart idea. He explained that American people may not be ready to pay three times more for the same phone. Also, it will not bring back lost jobs from China to the US.
Currently, 80% of Apple’s production is done in China. This gives jobs to around 5 million people there. In recent years, Apple has started making more iPhones in India to reduce its dependency on China and avoid import taxes.
NK Goyal, Chairman of the Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association, said that Apple has already made iPhones worth \$22 billion in India. The company has three manufacturing plants here and plans to open two more. Apple CEO Tim Cook is trying to protect Apple from US trade tariffs by shifting production to India.
Making iPhones in America sounds good in theory, but it may hurt both Apple and US consumers. The cost will rise, and the availability of affordable phones will go down. Experts believe it is better for Apple to continue production in countries like India, where costs are lower, and jobs are growing.
