Woman Fined ₹8.3 Lakh: A woman named Wang has been ordered by a court in Qingdao, China, to compensate Liu, a 59-year-old woman, with 70,000 yuan (₹8.3 lakh). However, many have been perplexed by the cause. In May 2023, Liu was strolling through her neighborhood when she abruptly stopped to take a phone call and then turned around. Wang, who was following her without seeing, bumped into Liu.
Liu suffered bone fractures after falling as a result of the incident. She subsequently received a Grade 10 impairment diagnosis.
Grade 1 is the most severe and Grade 10 is the least in China, where disabilities are ranked on a scale of 1 to 10. In China, a grade 10 impairment usually consists of an organ that is partially damaged or deformed. It does not, however, entail functional difficulties. According to the China Labour Bulletin, it doesn’t need medical attention.
Court Verdict on Woman Fined ₹8.3 Lakh:
The court said Wang was irresponsible and ought to have been more cautious. In order to cover medical expenses and injuries sustained in the collision, Liu first requested that Wang pay 188,000 yuan, or around ₹22 lakh. Wang claimed that Liu had abruptly stopped, but Liu placed the responsibility on Wang.
After seeing CCTV evidence, the judge declared that both were partially to blame. He accused Wang of being inattentive and Liu of halting in the middle of the road. Wang consented to pay 70,000 yuan in installments following discussions.
On Chinese social media, the case has gone viral, and many people are wondering why the guy who was walking behind was held responsible. Since the judge accused Wang of “not keeping a safe distance while walking behind Liu,” the case has generated public discussion. Only automobiles are subject to such road laws in China.
