Bengaluru Rains: IMD Issues Orange Alert for 7-Day Forecast

Bengaluru Rains: According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), on May 19, Bengaluru should continue to receive about 100 mm of rain. In addition, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in Karnataka districts, issuing orange and yellow alerts.


Extremely heavy rainfall is predicted for today across coastal and south interior Karnataka, according the IMD’s forecast alert. It further stated that between 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. tonight, the weather is “very favorable for massive thunderstorms over parts of Karnataka,” including Bengaluru. It has been a rainy week in Bengaluru, with rain falling in most areas of the city. Like the previous evening, the rain started in the Karnataka capital at approximately 9.30 p.m. on May 17 and lasted for many hours.

Heavy Rainfall for next few days:
The IMD issued a warning for scattered to widespread moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning in coastal regions across the state for the next seven days, according to the KSNDMC. It also stated that from May 19 to May 22, isolated areas in Karnataka’s southern interior districts may experience heavy rainfall.

From May 20 to 22, isolated locations in the Coastal and Malnad districts will likely experience extremely severe rainfall. The IMD issued an Orange Alert, according to the message on the official account. The IMD also warned that from May 19 to 22, 2025, isolated locations in the state may face wind speeds of 40 to 50 km/h.

1. May 19: The IMD forecasts extremely high levels of rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls for Bengaluru and the coastal, north, and south interior regions of Karnataka.
2. May 20: In the coastal and southern interior regions of Karnataka, IMD forecasts extremely high rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls. In Karnataka’s north interior, extremely heavy rain is expected.
3. May 21: In south interior Karnataka, IMD forecasts squalls, thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rains. Very heavy rainfall is predicted for Karnataka’s coastal regions and northern interior.
4. May 22: The IMD warns of extremely heavy rains in the north and coastal regions of Karnataka, but not in the south.
5. May 23–25: The IMD warns of significant rainfall in the north interior and coastal regions of Karnataka, but not in the south interior.
