Hyderabad: The Telangana government is planning to install an underground cable system in Hyderabad to check frequent power outages. Initially, this system will be installed within the Outer Ring Road and will be expanded to the entire city in the future. Through this, the government has taken steps to reduce power losses and provide uninterrupted power supply. In addition, plans are being made for solar power generation along the ORR.
Official sources say that this project is likely to start from Medchal district. It is estimated that the cost of setting up this system will be between Rs. 2 crore and Rs. 5 crore per kilometer. Currently, there are 1,280 kilometers of 33 KV underground cables in the GHMC area. The government is preparing to expand this further. The government has instructed the officials to thoroughly examine the policies of foreign cities that have successfully implemented the underground electricity system and submit a comprehensive report.
It is planned to hand over the management of this project to companies with experience in the electricity sector. Through this system, the government is working to make Hyderabad a state-of-the-art city without electricity problems. The aim is to provide uninterrupted power supply to the people without any problems.
The demand for electricity in the city is increasing rapidly every year. Experts predict that it is likely to increase even more in the coming days. In this context, the government is preparing to effectively provide the necessary power supply to data centers, industrial areas, radial roads within the regional ring road, and satellite townships.
The government has decided to set up an underground power supply system in the future city (Future City) without electricity towers and poles. It has also issued orders to install smart poles in key areas of the city like the Secretariat, Necklace Road, and KBR Park.
