Today, on May 22, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate 103 Amrit Bharat Railway Stations across the country. These railway stations have been developed with modern facilities and upgraded to meet international standards. The goal is to improve passenger experience and highlight the culture of different regions through the design of each station.
Among the 103 stations, several are located in the southern states, including Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. In Telangana, authorities will inaugurate the Warangal, Karimnagar, and Begumpet railway stations. Andhra Pradesh includes the Sullurupeta railway station in this list. Union Minister Kishan Reddy will attend the event at Begumpet station, which stands out because women staff operate it entirely.
The newly developed stations feature improved buildings, attractive entry gates, foot overbrididges, lifts, escalators, waiting halls, clean toilets, and better ticket counters. Designers created the stations’ look to reflect local traditions and cultures, giving each station a unique identity. Workers have also installed new signboards to help passengers navigate more easily.
Out of the total 103 stations, only 21 are from South India. These include 9 in Tamil Nadu, 5 in Karnataka, 3 in Telangana, 2 in Kerala, 1 in Andhra Pradesh, and 1 in Puducherry. The remaining 78 stations are from North Indian states, with Uttar Pradesh having the highest number at 19. Gujarat follows with 18, Maharashtra with 15, Rajasthan with 8, Madhya Pradesh with 6, and Chhattisgarh with 5. West Bengal has 3 stations, and Assam has 1.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is part of the central government’s vision to transform railway infrastructure across India. The scheme focuses on long-term development to meet future needs and to provide improved services to passengers.
Today’s inauguration is expected to mark a major step in modernizing India’s railways and bringing better connectivity to people across the country.
