Mumbai Metro Expansion: Line 11 To Improve Citywide Connectivity

Mumbai Metro Expansion: Dharavi in Mumbai is on the threshold of a brighter future. Now with plans to expand Metro Line 11 (Wadala–CSMT) gaining traction, the chances of advancing transportation is rising. The expansion, part of the Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP), aims to improve citywide connectivity and ease travel within the city. This make Mumbai people happy as Mumbai was one of the busiest city with heavy traffic. Line 11 Metro Expansion is now a relief to Mumbai people.


Metro Line 11 Extension and Connectivity

The expansion proposal shall see two new metro stations added—the one at Sion and the other at Dharavi. Metro Line 11 will further be extended towards the west in order to join the existing Metro Line 3 (Colaba–BKC–Aarey) so that passengers can get a seamless transfer from east-west and north-south directions.

Dharavi Central Metro Station: A Multi-Level Hub

The government will also build Dharavi Central Metro Station, a multi-level interchange, which will link different metro corridors. The traveling time will be significantly cut, particularly for passengers traveling by BKC, eastern suburbs, and the airport.

Role of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd

Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL), the implementing agency of Metro Line 3, has also been tasked with creating Metro Line 11. It costs approximately ₹16,000 crore and is under planning at present.

Enhancing Last-Mile Connectivity

There is last-mile connectivity being provided because the planners are involved in the inclusion of feeder bus routes, cycling infrastructure, and pedestrian infrastructure. Planners are involved in creating a future-proof mobility hub, consolidating metro, rail, bus, and non-motorized transport in one umbrella.

The Dharavi Metro interchange will be a game changer for mass transit in Mumbai. Improved connectivity and decongesting, this project will improve urban mobility and ease commuting of millions of citizens.
