Free Water ATMs: The Chennai Metro Water Board plans to install free water ATMs in busy city areas as part of a major public welfare initiative to provide clean drinking water, especially benefiting commuters and daily wage workers.
In Phase 1, the board will place 50 water vending machines at strategic locations such as beaches, parks, temples, bus hubs, terminals, and marketplaces. To ensure an uninterrupted water supply, each machine will connect to a 3,000-liter tank, be monitored by CCTV, and be linked directly to the metro water network. Users can access either one liter or 150 milliliters of filtered water from each machine.
