Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 :
The Telangana Government has received the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for Part-B of Hyderabad Metro’s Phase-2. This new expansion includes three corridors, covering a total distance of 86.1 kilometers. The estimated cost for this project is Rs. 19,579 crore. After the state cabinet approves it, the project will be sent to the central government for final approval.
JBS Metro Station to Medchal – 24.5 km
JBS Metro Station to Shamirpet – 22 km
Shamshabad Airport to Future City (Skill University) – 39.6 km
The Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) prepared the DPRs after field studies and research that lasted around six months. These reports were reviewed and approved in a board meeting and submitted to the state government on May 8, 2025.
Part-A of the Metro Phase-2 already includes five corridors and was sent to the central government last year. Now, Part-B has been added to meet growing demands, especially in the city’s northern areas.
The construction cost in Part-B is lower than in Part-A. While Part-A cost around Rs. 318 crore per kilometer, Part-B is expected to cost Rs. 227.39 crore per kilometer. This is because land acquisition is easier in some areas of Part-B.
Most of the new lines will be built as elevated tracks. Some sections, like the one near Hakimpet airport and a small part near Shamshabad Airport, will be underground or on ground level.
HAML MD N.V.S. Reddy stated that once the state government approves the reports, they will be sent to the Centre for funding and further action. This project is part of the Congress-led state government’s effort to expand metro services across all parts of Hyderabad.
The metro expansion aims to reduce traffic, improve public transport, and connect more areas to the city’s growing infrastructure network.
