A CRPF jawan, Moti Ram Jat, has been taken into custody for the charges of espionage on behalf of Pakistan, which allegedly provided sensitive security information for money. CRPF Jawan Arrested for Spying for Pakistan For Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in several casualties.


CRPF Jawan Arrested for Spying for Pakistan

Latest reports suggests that Moti Ram Jat was posted in Pahalgam. This was until five days before the April 22 terror attack. His sudden suspension from the service raised suspicion, triggering an internal probe which eventually resulted in his dismissal from service and subsequent arrest.

Espionage Activities & Allegations
Investigations confirmed that Jat was in contact with Pakistani intelligence officials since 2023 and exchanging top-secret operational data. The case has been taken over by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) as there were fears of national security breaches.


NIA’s Investigation & Court Proceedings
The Delhi court has awarded the NIA custody for 15 days to dig deeper into the extent of the breach. Agencies are proceeding ahead to determine the exact nature of information leaked and whether Jat was part of an all-encompassing espionage network.

Greater Crackdown on Espionage Networks
Jat’s arrest is also a part of a broader crackdown on suspected spies with Pakistan connections. During the past fortnight, 12 individuals have been detained in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh on the charge of indulging in espionage activities.

An arrested CRPF officer on the charge of espionage has generated serious security questions regarding loopholes in India’s security ranks. The government continues to investigate to confirm any and all remaining spy networks that threaten national security.
